A Number of Affected as In-Flight Disturbance Impacts A Delta Airlines Plane into Sydney, Australia

Several people were hurt after a Delta flight originating in Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia encountered significant turbulence Friday morning.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson stated. A number of the onboard staff sustained injuries.

Local paramedics reported they treated five patients, and took three of them to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that included spinal discomfort and migraines. Those affected ranged from their 30s to 70s.

The event represents the newest example of aircraft experiencing turbulence, with researchers pointing out that global warming is a key driver.

On board were 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the representative added, adding that the plane touched down "without further incident" at Sydney Airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service reported they were alerted just a mere three minutes ahead of the plane touched down, and response teams were standing by on the runway.

The reasons turbulence is getting increasingly prevalent - and potentially more dangerous.

In the previous year, twenty-five passengers and crew were hurt when a Delta Airlines flight, on a route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, Netherlands, experienced "significant" rough air just a couple of hours into the lengthy trip, and was forced to make an emergency landing.

Recently, those on board on a Singapore Airlines jet went through a frightening brief five-second period of extreme instability. A traveler passed away and many were hurt, as unbelted passengers lifted out of their seats and fell back down.
